Killer Features Overview

(last updated on August 26th, 2019)

Before we get into how to use this 360 camera QooCam for 360 photos and videos , let’s go over a quick review of all the killer features of QooCam. They are:

  • -SmartClip
  • -Express DNG8 & DNG8
  • -Facebook-ready 3D image
  • -Hyperlapse
  • -Smart track
  • -Cinematic stabilization

SmartClip, Automatically Edit Your Footage

SmartClip provides multiple pre-made templates to help you convert 360 footage into fixed frame short video clips automatically. It is designed to simplify this video making process, offering a step-by-step recommendation of how to shoot and customized keyframe settings of certain effects.

For example, if users want a rotating shot, SmartClip offers a corresponding shooting instruction, as well as its editing pre-made template, to allow users get a 10-sencond final ‘Inception’ result instantly, without setting the keyframes one by one themselves.

Express DNG8 & DNG8

Wanna take your image quality to the next level or even get paid?
Express DNG8 or ‘DNG8 & Raw+’ Combo is the one for you!
Amazing 360-degree photo with increased detail, dynamic range, and lower noise.

Express DNG8 v.s. DNG8

Express DNG8 and DNG8 are two panoramic photo and video capturing modes in QooCam, designed to reduce noise and get high quality image. These two are different.

In sum, Express DNG8 (available from v.2.5 camera app): in-camera photo stacking and mergeing 8 DNG into one JPG with less noise, perfect for non-moving object shooting scenarios, or light trails effect.

DNG8: It’s perfect for any situations, automatically capture an extreme fast burst of 8 DNG raw files with a single tap. The app captures 360 photos and videos, but does not support DNG. You need to open it in computer with PS/Lightroom and do the post-production with Kandao Raw+.

Raw+, a PC based software. Based on the reference DNG photo you choose, it uses computational photography to analyze, align and then remove noise by stacking multiple DNG files into one 16bit denoised DNG, thus reducing noise especially in low light and dramatically improving the image quality without ghosting.

When to use it?

You can use DNG8 in every situation and recover more shadow details while noise is not introduced. In particular, it works well for moving objects when capturing the exciting moment. Because shots are taken at short exposure times, aligning images of people or penguins in Raw+, for instance, can be done with accuracy instead of getting a “ghosted” image.

(note: remember to pick one image as a reference for the auto-alignment in Raw+)

While Express DNG8 is more suitable for non-moving object shooting, like real estate projects. It can also be used when shooting light trails effect with less noise.

Where to find express DNG8? Open camera app, swipe right to find DNG8 mode, tap setting and choose ‘express dng8’.

3D Photo, Bring Scenes to Life

Shoot 3D images but no VR headset to watch it in 3D? Don’t worry, here comes QooCam’s cool feature: Facebook-ready 3D photo!
Using depth-mapping technology, QooCam allows you to share memories, show products and bring scenes to life with depth and movement.

There are some tips for better 3D photo:

1. Find the perfect distance for better 3D image: the distance between camera and subject should be kept to 2-3 feet. Being too far or too close will weaken the 3D effect.
2. Adjust the background blur in the photo apps.
3. Pay attention to color contrast. So it is easier to distinguish between the subject and the background.
4. Shooting something with textures rather than transparent objects like clear plastic or glass, very slim subjects like twigs, and halo from strong light.

For Dual-lens iPhone:

Download the 3D image from camera album to 360 camera app album -> open the panoramic photo and adjust angle/ratio (e.g. 1:1, 4:3) -> tap the refocus button -> adjust the refocus strength to get a more natural background (e.g.minimum refocus strength) -> save as portrait -> open FB and share.

For single-lens iPhone or Android user, here is a workaround:
Download the 3D photo from camera album to app album -> open the 360 degrees photo and adjust angle/ratio (e.g. 1:1, 4:3) -> tap the refocus button -> adjust the refocus strength to get a more natural background (e.g.minimum refocus strength) -> tap share button on top right and save as 3D photo -> upload success, wait until the 3D image automatically appear in the public FB page “QooCam ThreeDphoto”!

For computer users:

Facebook now supports upload 3D photo from web now. With QooCam Studio, you can directly get a depth map of the 3D image. Just drag an image and its depth map and drop them into the composer, done!

Create & Share on the Go

The QooCam app, a free Android and IOS app which can be downloaded in app store and google play store, helps you easily create high resolution photos and videos, and before sharing them to social media, you can edit to make them more creative and interesting with just a few tricks. Both IOS and Android users have access to QooCam IOS APP or Android APP.

When you choose 16x or 32x, you can also add “motion blur” to it and have smoother movements for your hyperlapse.

Key point

Reframe your 360 video with key point, turning it into regular-sized videos that looks cinematic and almost professional.
How? First, go through your video, choose the parts you want to highlight and then add different key points. Once you have finished creating, the video will play back in a smooth way.

Shoot first, focus later

Take advantages of QooCam’s wide-angle fisheye lenses and depth technology, you can shoot first and focus later the 3D images, creating a full scene portrait at ease with artfully blurred backgrounds.
How?
Download the 3D image from camera album to app album -> open the 360-degree photo and adjust angle/ratio (e.g. 1:1, 4:3) -> tap the refocus button -> adjust the refocus strength to get a more natural background (e.g.minimum refocus strength) -> tap share button on top right and save to album or FB/Ins.
